Those of you who have read MRS. POE (thank you, thank you!) might remember the scene in which Frances first falls for Samuel Osgood. Samuel woos her with talk about the painter Gilbert Stuart, in particular about how Stuart had difficulty getting George Washington to smile for his portrait. DEAR MR. WASHINGTON, which comes out today across the U.S., looks at Gilbert's struggles with Washington from the point of view of Stuart's kids. I like to think that they got Washington to forget those painful dentures for just one ridiculous moment. You can see the results today on a dollar bill.
